On the Nameplate How do you visualize genetic code without falling back on illustrations of the double helix? How do you find a visual style that bridges the chasm between articles about biological and cultural codes? For this issue’s art direction, we trained artificial intelligence to blend all the pictures from past issues of Biodesigned into a single image. Our goal was to create a symbol for the collaborations and collisions that make up the culture and science of codes. In a sense, we used AI to breed this issue’s art.
